
~ The Australian joins the Royals as Joe Root departs to focus on England’s international commitments ~
30 January 2025, National: Royals Sports Group-owned franchise Paarl Royals have announced the signing of Australian batsman Mitchell Owen as a replacement for England’s Joe Root, who will be unavailable from 1st Feb onwards due to his commitments with the England national team. Root has contributed massively to the season so far, helping them to the top of the league table. The Paarl Royals extend their best wishes to Joe Root as he prepares for his international duties.
Mitchell Owen, an exciting top order batsman, has been in impressive form, coming off a 100 in the recent BBL final. He was also in the BBL team of the tournament. Known for his dynamic stroke play, Owen’s arrival adds further depth to the Royals' squad ahead of SA20 Season 3.
